Elisaveta Apostolova is an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmacotherapy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University-Plovdiv. In 2008, she graduated from the Medical University – Sofia with Master degree in Pharmacy. She received a PhD degree in Pharmacology (incl. Pharmacokinetics and chemotherapy) in 2015. Her thesis was focused on experimental characterization of less studied neuropharmacological effects of retigabine.
She acquired two specialties “Clinical Pharmacy” and “Toxicology and Toxicological analysis”.
Elisaveta Apostolova completed a course “Drug use and abuse” as part of Erasmus® programme at Universidad del Pais Vasco Bizkaia, Spain. In 2016 she completed a training at the University of Szeged, Hungary as a part of the same programme. Her areas of research interests are the neuronal and neuromuscular activity and toxicity of CNS drugs (e.g. Retigabine, Etifoxine), the effects of substances with natural origin (propolis, fucoidan, Micromeria friwaldzskiana).
Currently, her research is focused on the anti-inflammatory and immune modulating activity of fucoidans, the effects of plant extracts on animal models of drug toxicity, and the wound healing process. Dr. Apostolova participated also in scientific projects, related to the effects of different drug formulations on hyperalgesia and nociception, the effects of plant extracts on wound healing, and liver protection. The influence of biologically active products of natural origin (peat, Rosmarinus officinalis and propolis) on pain and inflammation were an object of her previous research. She has 31 publications in peer reviewed journals, 25 of them in IF journals (JCR®); 47 participations in scientific conferences. Her research items were cited by 370 articles.
